Rev. Leo Kwan

Leo was born and grew up in Hong Kong. He came to Sydney in 1994 and was baptized in 1995 at North Side. Leo worked as an electrical engineer for 36 years before starting full-time pastoral ministry.

Leo graduated from Morling College with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 2015; and received his pastor’s license from the C&MA Australia in 2016. In the same year, he has started his pastoral ministry at North Side mainly looking after the Cantonese ministry.

Leo is married to Alice. Together they have an adult daughter who, with her husband, is also engaged in ministry, while raising three kids. Leo’s favourite pastime is singing, coffee and table talk.  

Ps. Eric Lai

Youth Ministry Pastor

Born in Hong Kong, migrated to Australia in his high school years, Eric studied in a Christian high school and decided to commit his life to Christ at a youth group outreach event. He worked as a Civil Engineer before starting full-time pastoral ministry.

Eric graduated from Morling College with an M.Div. and an M.A. (Theology) degree. In addition, he has also completed a research paper in a diploma of theology certificate. Joining North Side in February 2023, Eric’s main responsibilities include discipleship and ministry development in the English Youth.

Eric is married to his college classmate, Ruth, and together they have two children. They enjoy spending time with the kids. When he has time for himself, Eric enjoys reading with a good cup of coffee.

Ps. Brock Li

Mandarin Ministry Pastor

Brock grew up in a scenic county town, known as the “land of poetry and fragrance,” habituated by the Hakka people in southern Jiangxi, China. Having worked in IT for years, Brock migrated with his family to Sydney in 2005.

Moved by God, Brock began part-time theological study in 2015; and in 2021, felt called to full-time ministry. He earned his Master of Divinity degree in the same year from the Chinese Theological College of Australia. Brock began ministry at North Side with the Mandarin ministry in June 2022.

Brock is married to Mabel with their son currently attending university. He enjoys music, literature, traveling, sports and good food (and cooking them). His favorite verse is “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Prov 17:22)

Rev. Hiram Lau

Cantonese Ministry Pastor

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Hiram came to Australia in 2001 for university studies. During his first year in Sydney, he became a Christian and was then baptized in 2002. After graduating from university, Hiram worked in accounting and payroll for several years.

Hiram joined North Side as a student pastor in February 2016 and received his M.Div. degree from Morling College in 2017. His ministries at North Side include the Cantonese young families and workers, as well as the Children Sunday School ministry.

Hiram got married to Jessie, and together they have two daughters, Honor and Eirene. Hiram is a huge Liverpool FC fan and loves to talk about movies. He also loves cooking and traveling.

Rev. Andrew Tibbs

English Ministry Pastor

Born in Wollongong and having spent his childhood in Narrabri NSW, Andrew later moved to Sydney with his family. After a near-death experience in Year 9, he felt a calling to serve God, which was strengthened during his time at uni.

Andrew graduated from Sydney Missionary and Bible College with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 2001. He had been a scripture teacher for many years before he commenced ministry at North Side with the English ministry (MES) in August 2016.

Andrew is married to Emily. Being a long-suffering Parramatta Eels fan (NRL), Andrew enjoys a good movie, and is a fan of the Narnia, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series (both movies and novels). He is currently attempting to grow things in his garden (other than weeds).

Rev. Dr. Andrew Choy

Senior Pastor

Born and raised in Hong Kong to an atheist family, Andrew became a Christian during university years in Perth WA. He then felt called to full-time ministry and completed theological training in 2001.

During his pastoral ministry in Perth and Sydney, Andrew pursued advanced studies in Christian spirituality, spiritual direction and pastoral counselling. He completed his doctorate from Fuller Seminary (USA) in 2017. Andrew started his ministry as senior pastor at North Side in January 2023.

Andrew is married to Zoe, and together they have two daughters, Verity and Karis, whose names’ meaning always reminds them of God’s truth and grace. Binding the family together, other than their nightly prayer time, is their interest in Korean zombie dramas and Japanese sushi trains.
