    Mission Convention

    Theme for 2024 : Understanding Islam: Sharing God’s love with Muslims

    Speaker Introduction:
    Edward Chau and Sandy Kwan: Edward Chau is a businessman, and his wife Sandy is a registered nurse. They were born in Hong Kong and completed a three-year course at the “World Gospel Missionary Training Institute” in Tasmania in 1999. Afterward, from 1999 to 2000, Edward was appointed as a full-time pastor at their home church, “Peace Gospel Hall.” In 2000, they began their overseas missionary work: from 2000 to 2005 in Mauritania, Senegal, and Egypt; from 2007 to 2013 in Western Sahara; and since 2015 in Afghanistan. Both of them hold master’s degrees in leadership education and bachelor’s degrees in Christian studies. In 2015, Edward founded a missionary organisation, “Horizons International (Asia),” primarily focusing on reaching out to Muslims and mobilizing local churches to provide training for this ministry.

    Cantonese Pastor

    NSCAC is seeking a Cantonese Pastor

    Qualifications Required:
    • Agree with the statement of faith of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Australia
    • Be clearly called by God and passionate about shepherding the Cantonese-speaking community
    • Have at least three years of pastoral experience
    • Hold a recognized evangelical theological seminary degree, Bachelor’s in Theology or higher
    • Understand and integrate into the church’s multicultural background
    • Demonstrate team spirit and good interpersonal relationships, able to fulfill church duties with the pastoral team, Elder Board, and Deacon Board
    • Speak fluent Cantonese and English
    • Full-time/part-time

    Rev. Leo Kwan

    Cantonese Ministry Pastor

    Leo was born and grew up in Hong Kong. He came to Sydney in 1994 and was baptized in 1995 at North Side. Leo worked as an electrical engineer for 36 years before starting full-time pastoral ministry.

    Leo graduated from Morling College with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 2015; and received his pastor’s license from the C&MA Australia in 2016. In the same year, he has started his pastoral ministry at North Side mainly looking after the Cantonese ministry.

    Leo is married to Alice. Together they have an adult daughter who, with her husband, is also engaged in ministry, while raising three kids. Leo’s favourite pastime is singing, coffee and table talk.  

    Ps. Eric Lai

    Youth Ministry Pastor

    Born in Hong Kong, migrated to Australia in his high school years, Eric studied in a Christian high school and decided to commit his life to Christ at a youth group outreach event. He worked as a Civil Engineer before starting full-time pastoral ministry.

    Eric graduated from Morling College with an M.Div. and an M.A. (Theology) degree. In addition, he has also completed a research paper in a diploma of theology certificate. Joining North Side in February 2023, Eric’s main responsibilities include discipleship and ministry development in the English Youth.

    Eric is married to his college classmate, Ruth, and together they have two children. They enjoy spending time with the kids. When he has time for himself, Eric enjoys reading with a good cup of coffee.

    Ps. Brock Li

    Mandarin Ministry Pastor

    Brock grew up in a scenic county town, known as the “land of poetry and fragrance,” habituated by the Hakka people in southern Jiangxi, China. Having worked in IT for years, Brock migrated with his family to Sydney in 2005.

    Moved by God, Brock began part-time theological study in 2015; and in 2021, felt called to full-time ministry. He earned his Master of Divinity degree in the same year from the Chinese Theological College of Australia. Brock began ministry at North Side with the Mandarin ministry in June 2022.

    Brock is married to Mabel with their son currently attending university. He enjoys music, literature, traveling, sports and good food (and cooking them). His favorite verse is “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Prov 17:22)
