Dorcas Women’s Fellowship

Candy Lau

Paul Fellowship

NSY

NSY (North Side Youth) is our youth group for high school students and high school-aged youth that meets on Friday nights during the school term. Over the past four terms, we have focused on encouraging the youth to know, grow, show and sow Christ in their daily lives. In term 1 this year, we explored topics on Christian living such as Bible reading, prayer, and church. In term 2, we did a series on “Two ways to live”. This series aims to look into the gospel message and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

At the beginning of term 2, we also attended the KYCK youth conference held by KCC. It was a weekend away with 30 of our youth and we had 6 talk sessions with time in between for bonding and relationship building. We’ve also conducted youth service for MES at the end of term 2 where youth are encouraged to serve in various roles for leading the service. In term 3, we have invited Yakim and Grace to come share more about what mission is all about. This is to encourage and inspire our youth to think about how they can engage in the gospel mission for God. We hope that our youth will be eager to join and connect Christians from other schools and grow together as fellow brothers and sisters.

Throughout this year, we have continually seen God’s work and love in this ministry. There have been challenges along the way, such as in the influx of new year 7 youths and planning for leadership development and the future of NSY. But, we thank and praise God, who has been carrying us through each step and growing the ministry, the youth, and their relationships with one another.

Evergreen Fellowship

Pal Dou

Board of Deacons

Pal Dou

Dear Brothers and Sisters, it is time to report what happened to our Church in the eyes of the Board of Deacons.

In 2025, we have nine Deacons: four from Cantonese ministry, three from English ministry and two from Mandarin ministry.  We continued improve the administrative work and being more transparent to brothers and sisters.  Brothers and sisters appreciated the clarity of the quarterly financial briefs, so that they understood where the offerings go and the health of Church finance. In addition, NSCAC repaid all loans and became a debt-free church. This enables NSCAC to have room to dream big in future.  The Board of Deacons are happy that younger generations were willing to step up and serve God in handling administrative matters of our Church.

NSCAC experienced huge growth in the number of patrons in 2025.  The Board of Deacons introduced more functionality of Elvanto Church management system to:

  • effectively manage membership information
  • register newcomers
  • Children Sunday School administration (allegies/medications) and roll calls
  • EGM/AGM voting SMS
  • Camp and parking permit forms
  • Sunday services rosters

The Board of Deacons is thankful that Deacons worked extra step.  The Deacons also thanked for your prayers and ongoing support, especially when our Church is growing, we really need God’s grace to make all the beautiful things happen. We invite brothers and sisters for your prayers to the future development of the Church, include Church expansion, upkeep the facilities and make the Church building greener.

Mission Task Force

Highlights of last year

God always sends His faithful servants to teach and encourage us at our annual mission conference. Last year, we had Edward and Sandy, a missionary couple from Horizons International (Asia), who showed us what it means to serve sacrificially, not valuing even their own lives. Their mission experience was full of danger, yet they had no fear, allowing us to witness God’s great power. Even though Sandy was diagnosed with a terminal illness, she showed no worry—she lived each day fully, seizing every opportunity to share the gospel and equip believers. Their lives were a beautiful sermon in themselves.

In addition to being speakers of mission conferences at several Chinese Alliance churches, they also held multiple evangelism training sessions focused on reaching Muslims. On several Sunday afternoons, they led brothers and sisters to outreach Muslims on streets to practise what they have learned. Although outreach to Muslims has been stopped due to various reasons, these experiences helped participants understand the challenges of cross-cultural missions firsthand. Considering the vast Muslim community in Sydney, we pray that more similar trainings will be held in the future, awakening the Chinese churches to the urgency of reaching Muslims.

At the end of last year, M&L (Martin & Lisa), who serve in Africa, returned to Australia for home assignment. In early December, they shared their thanksgiving and testimonies from the mission field at church, with many brothers and sisters in attendance. They stayed in Australia for over a month. Although they experienced a car accident during that time, God protected them and they were unharmed. Amazingly, God even provided another vehicle for them to complete their home assignment trip.

We were thankful that D&E’s (Daniel & Esther) commissioning service was successfully held this February. The General Director of their mission organization made a special trip to Sydney to attend the ceremony and gave them an encouraging message to strengthen their hearts. Although D&E’s journey to the mission field have been full of challenges and delays, they have patiently waited and seen how God has opened the way for them step by step. We pray that God will continue to lead them and enable them to arrive safely at the mission field this year to serve their target community.

Due to public liability insurance requirements, our church continues to support the urban-rural outreach ministry in Dubbo area. The team goes out roughly once every three months. We are thankful that in the past year, a young couple joined the team, allowing us to expand our outreach area and connect with more Chinese people in rural towns. We have seen some Chinese willing to repent and believe in Jesus Christ, and some have become friendlier towards us—this is a great encouragement. However, there are still many remain indifferent to the gospel. We pray that God will increase the love in the hearts of team members and give them wisdom to share the gospel and care for the rural Chinese community effectively.

Over the past year, the church supported four young people in participating in short-term missions: one went to Cambodia and three went to Taiwan. We pray that through their short-term mission experiences, these young people will see the vast mission fields around the world, understand the gospel needs of unreached people groups, and experience the challenges of cross-cultural missions—so that they may become passionate senders or goers in missions.

Challenges

The mission ministry at NSCAC is currently facing several challenges. First, attendance at the monthly mission prayer meeting has declined, with only four people regularly participating. Secondly, the mission ministry itself has stagnated, lacking new breakthroughs that would effectively mobilize the congregation across different services to care about and engage in missions. We pray for the Holy Spirit to revive our mission ministry, to stir the hearts of members of all ages, that they may be willing to learn and engage more deeply in missions, so that we may become a church aligned with God’s heart.

Looking Ahead

Looking back over the past year, we see God’s abundant grace. The faithful giving of brothers and sisters through faith pledges meant we had no financial lack. But even more, I hope God will raise up more members from NSCAC to actively participate in missions, to grow in understanding the needs of world missions, and to provide ongoing support for frontline missionaries and gospel ministries. Let us continue to pray for missions and gospel work, so that the gospel will be spread to every corner of the world and every people group.

Words from the Senior Pastor

Rev Andrew Choy

Church Direction

This year, our theme “Standing Firm in a Season of Change” has provided a direction across all congregations. Rooted in biblical mandate and shaped by global uncertainties alongside local ministry transitions, this theme has guided our ministries, planning and leadership discussions. It has been a continual point of focus in leadership team meetings, helping us navigate change with faith and purpose.

To foster unity in prayer throughout this transitional season, the pastoral team introduced a monthly Prayer Calendar in February 2025. Each month’s themes have reflected our church’s priorities and broadened awareness of both local and global mission efforts. This calendar has become a vital tool for spiritual growth and corporate devotion across the entire church family.

In April, the Combined Church Camp brought together brothers and sisters of all ages from every congregation. This special “family time” away from home strengthened bonds and deepened unity, equipping us to stand firm together amid change.

Missions has remained at the heart of our direction. During the annual Missions Convention in August, we renewed our commitment by fixing our eyes on the Lord who sends labourers into the harvest. Looking ahead, we anticipate relaunching short-term mission exploration opportunities to further engage our church in God’s global work.

Leadership and Staff Teams

The Board of Elders (BoE) continued providing spiritual oversight, pastoral staffing and congregational development. The Think Tank and Church Development Committee set up under the BoE regularly focused on church growth, facility needs, service times, and long-term venue planning. In June, a well-attended Elders and Leaders Training Day led by former C&MA president Rev. Rod Russell-Brown offered valuable training for current and future leaders. A Planning Retreat is planned later this year to seek further guidance from God.

The Board of Deacons was instrumental in operational matters, including coordinating church-wide events such as the combined Christmas Morning Tea in 2024, onboarding support for new staff, liaising on venue use applications, and renewing financial support for various Christian organisations and ministries. They also helped finalise the annual compliance report for the C&MA headquarters and resolved administrative issues such as banking signatories and improving information technology needs, including the Elvanto system.

The 2025 Nominating Committee finalised elder and deacon nominees by July in preparation for the September AGM. Among numerous returning nominees, we are extremely grateful to see a number of new deacon nominees, particularly female, across all congregations. The BoE is preparing for the 2026 Nominating Committee, which will be elected at the AGM.

At the pastoral team level, a major milestone was the successful onboarding of Pastor Arthur Leung in June 2025, following an extensive Cantonese pastoral search after Rev. Leo Kwan retired at the end of 2024. Pastor Arthur’s induction service at the end of June was a celebration of answered prayer.

With the departure of Rev. Andrew Tibbs in September 2024, the English Ministry Pastor role was vacant while Pastor Eric Lai took on the responsibility as Acting English Pastor, concurrently serving as Youth Pastor. In the EGM in March 2025, the church gladly endorsed the calling of Pastor Eric as the English Ministry Pastor. Following Pastor Eric’s new appointment, the Youth Pastor Search Team was then set up by the BoE. The team met several times to refine the ministry scope and identify potential candidates. We continue to trust the Lord to provide a suitable candidate to minister to our youths.

The pastoral team also coordinated major church events with the help of other leadership teams, including Christmas services in 2024, Good Friday and Easter celebrations, which saw strong attendance and meaningful participation. The team coordinated the Lent preaching series across congregations from March to April, as well as the Combined Church Prayer Meeting in July.

All pastors have undertaken mandatory C&MA pastoral supervision since late last year and further training in ministry development through the regular C&MA Pastor’s Day in NSW. Both Pastor Brock Li and Pastor Eric Lai have been preparing diligently for ordination since September 2024. God willing, we look forward to their ordination sometime in 2026. We are also pleased to have two student pastors joining us to learn and serve God together.

The administrative team has been invaluable in ensuring smooth ministry operations. The office supported baptism and membership services, the launch of the Prayer Calendar, and multiple congregational activities throughout the year. We are grateful to God for their faithful ministry.

Other Ministries

We are grateful to God that our English, Mandarin, and Cantonese congregations continue to thrive, with dedicated brothers and sisters passionately serving God and one another. This commitment is evident across a variety of ministries — from growth and fellowship groups to outreach visits, Bible study, discipleship training, prayer gatherings, and numerous church events — where the spirit of community shines brightly.

In support of spiritual growth, we have hosted the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Mandarin-speaking ladies’ study group at our church since August 2024, with their ministry continuing into the new year. We are also pleased to welcome a new BSF Cantonese-speaking men’s group starting this August, reflecting our conviction that systematic study and relevant application of God’s word are essential for life transformation.

Engagement with the wider community remains a priority. In September, the whole church joined the annual Murray Farm Public School Cracker Carnival as an outreach effort to connect with local families and neighbours. At the end of 2024, Epping West Public School made their hall available for use, which we initially saw as an opportunity to expand our ministries. Although this arrangement was cut short, we continue to trust God to open new pathways for growth.

Within the church, membership and baptism services were thoughtfully prepared and joyfully celebrated across congregations in November 2024 and May 2025, welcoming over 30 new members into our church family. It has also been heartwarming to witness a wave of young people, particularly in the English congregation, preparing for and celebrating marriages during this season. In the Cantonese congregation, we rejoiced in the arrival of a couple of babies, along with several new young families who have recently made our church their home. These joyful milestones are a treasured part of our church life.

Together, we remain steadfast in faith, united in ministry, and hopeful as we embrace God’s plans for the future. To learn more about our church’s other ministries, please continue reading with a grateful heart, recognizing God’s faithful guidance.
